Last Spring during the Canadian Goose nesting season Robeson Meadows worked with Friends of Geese (FOG) to assist neighbors in managing the goose population on our lakes.
FOG volunteers visited Robeson Meadows and located 9 nests and oiled 36 eggs which reduced the population of new goslings on our lakes last year.
The Board has applied for and received the necessary permit from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for 2022, and FOG has notified us that they are prepared to assist interested Robeson Meadows residents again this year.
Participation is voluntary. The Board is neither pro-goose nor anti-goose. The Board wishes to provide residents with a humane option if they wish to prevent goose eggs from hatching on their property.
FOG has requested that residents submit a signed consent form to allow FOG volunteers to enter their property to locate and treat goose eggs. FOG will only treat eggs if the homeowner has granted permission. If you are interested, please download and sign the Friends of Geese Consent Form and submit it to the address listed on the form.
If you do not wish FOG to come to your property to treat any goose eggs, no action is required.
FOG is dedicated to educating the public on habitat modifications to discourage resident geese from nesting and humane egg depredation to reduce the number of eggs that hatch into goslings. For more information, please visit the Friends of Geese website.
