The board has received several reports from residents of a large number of dead fish in the large lake. Thank you to everyone helping to bring this to our attention and offer suggestions.
The board has been aware of and working to understand what has happened since early Thursday morning (July 28th) when the dead fish first appeared on Robeson Meadow’s large lake. Lakes chairman Marcelo Garcia has been working with Marine Biochemicals, the company that maintains our lakes, and has been consulting with other experts to identify the factors that led to this event.
There are several theories, but at this time we have no definitive answer to explain the cause of the fishkill. Fortunately, for now, the small lake is not affected. The impact on the large lake is substantial, however. We do not have an official count, but 92 dead fish were counted just in the Northeast corner of the lake on Thursday morning. We estimate that up to 200 fish may have been lost.
The board will provide further updates as we learn more about what happened and how we can work together to reduce the various factors that stress our lakes and our fish.
